How the Thieves Tried to Steal the Car
The intruder connects to the vehicle’s OBD port – a diagnostic access point found in every modern car – and attempts to clone a key using devices that are readily available to buy online.
He successfully starts the engine using his gadget. But here’s where the story changes.
Why the Immobiliser Made All the Difference
Because we had fitted an immobiliser with a gear shift lock on this vehicle, the thief couldn’t put the car into gear. His accomplice joins him, but they quickly realise they’re not going to be able to drive it away.
They leave – most likely to go and find another vehicle without proper security in place.
Prevention Is Always Better Than Recovery
Thankfully, our client had asked us to fit an additional layer of security before this attempted theft ever took place. A simple aftermarket immobiliser was all it took to keep his car on the driveway.
